{"id":2672,"date":"2013-12-19T17:22:02","date_gmt":"2013-12-19T17:22:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.novonon.com\/blog\/?p=2672"},"modified":"2013-12-19T17:22:02","modified_gmt":"2013-12-19T17:22:02","slug":"on-the-backlash-against-the-push-for-more-replicability-in-scientific-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.novonon.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/19\/on-the-backlash-against-the-push-for-more-replicability-in-scientific-research\/","title":{"rendered":"On the backlash against the push for more replicability in scientific research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Some strong arguments here. -egg]<\/p>\n<p>Raghuveer Parthasarathy pointed me to an article in Nature by Mina Bissell, who writes, \u201cThe push to replicate findings could shelve promising research and unfairly damage the reputations of careful, meticulous scientists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I can see where she\u2019s coming from: if you work hard day after day in the lab, it\u2019s gotta be a bit frustrating to find all your work questioned, for the frauds of the Dr. Anil Pottis and Diederik Stapels to be treated as a reason for everyone else\u2019s work to be considered guilty until proven innocent.<\/p>\n<p>That said, I pretty much disagree with Bissell\u2019s article, and really the best thing I can say about it is that I think it\u2019s a good sign that the push for replication is so strong that now there\u2019s a backlash against it. Traditionally, leading scientists have been able to simply ignore the push for replication.
