A few examples:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>While the\u00a0<a title=\"Beta-Carotene\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beta-Carotene\">beta carotene<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<a title=\"Carrot\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carrot\">carrots<\/a>\u00a0can help improve\u00a0<a title=\"Night vision\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Night_vision\">night vision<\/a>\u00a0in those suffering from a\u00a0<a title=\"Vitamin A deficiency\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vitamin_A_deficiency\">deficiency of vitamin A<\/a>, it does not enhance it beyond normal levels in those receiving an adequate amount.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Carrots_and_vitamin_A_365-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-Carrots_and_vitamin_A-365\">[365]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The belief that it does originated from\u00a0<a title=\"World War II\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_War_II\">World War II<\/a>\u00a0British\u00a0<a title=\"Disinformation\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Disinformation\">disinformation<\/a>\u00a0meant to explain the\u00a0<a title=\"Royal Air Force\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_Air_Force\">Royal Air Force<\/a>&#8216;s improved success in night battles, which was actually due to\u00a0<a title=\"Radar\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Radar\">radar<\/a>\u00a0and the use of red lights on instrument panels.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Carrots_and_British_propaganda_366-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-Carrots_and_British_propaganda-366\">[366]<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n<li>Eating less than an hour before swimming does not increase the risk of experiencing muscle\u00a0<a title=\"Cramp\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cramp\">cramps<\/a>\u00a0or drowning. One study shows a correlation between alcohol consumption and drowning, but there is no evidence cited regarding stomach cramps or the consumption of food.<sup id=\"cite_ref-316\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-316\">[316]<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n<li><a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Euphorbia_pulcherrima#Toxicity_claims\">Poinsettias<\/a>\u00a0are not highly\u00a0<a title=\"Toxicity\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Toxicity\">toxic<\/a>\u00a0to humans or cats. While it is true that they are mildly irritating to the skin or stomach,<sup id=\"cite_ref-southern_277-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-southern-277\">[277]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and may sometimes cause\u00a0<a title=\"Diarrhea\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diarrhea\">diarrhea<\/a>\u00a0and vomiting if eaten,<sup id=\"cite_ref-fiction_278-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-fiction-278\">[278]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0an\u00a0<i><a title=\"American Journal of Emergency Medicine\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Journal_of_Emergency_Medicine\">American Journal of Emergency Medicine<\/a><\/i>\u00a0study of 22,793 cases reported to the American Association of Poison Control Centers showed no fatalities and few cases requiring medical treatment.<sup id=\"cite_ref-ajem_279-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-ajem-279\">[279]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0According to the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"ASPCA\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ASPCA\">ASPCA<\/a>, poinsettias may cause light to mid-range gastrointestinal discomfort in felines, with diarrhea and vomiting as the most severe consequences of ingestion.<sup id=\"cite_ref-ASPCA_280-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-ASPCA-280\">[280]<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Western honey bee\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Western_honey_bee#Claims_of_human_dependency\">European honey bees<\/a>\u00a0are often described as essential to human food production, leading to claims that without their pollination, humanity would starve or die out.<sup id=\"cite_ref-271\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-271\">[271]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-272\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-272\">[272]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The quote &#8220;If bees disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live&#8221; has been misattributed to Albert Einstein.<sup id=\"cite_ref-273\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-273\">[273]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-274\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-274\">[274]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In fact, many important crops need no insect pollination at all. The ten most important crops,<sup id=\"cite_ref-275\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-275\">[275]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0comprising 60% of all human food energy,<sup id=\"cite_ref-276\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-276\">[276]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0all fall into this category.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Earthworm\">Earthworms<\/a>\u00a0do not become two worms when cut in half. Only a limited number of earthworm species<sup id=\"cite_ref-256\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_common_misconceptions#cite_note-256\">[256]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0are capable of anterior\u00a0<a title=\"Earthworm\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Earthworm#Regeneration\">regeneration<\/a>.
